Lead Driver

Lead Drivers (LD) will support Operations with opening and closing activities, as well as miscellaneous tasks needed to support successful daily operations.
- Lead Drivers must be reliable, flexible, willing to learn, and adaptable- able to learn new tasks as needed to support the Operations team and 725 in general.
- LDs will lead by example for all drivers and team members and must be able to separate friendships from work when working in a supervisory manner.
The LD position is a supervisor position, it is a position of increased responsibility. LD’s are responsible for ensuring all tasks are executed successfully, provide guidance and direction for drivers to ensure they are safe and successful every day.
- LD’s are expected to lead by example including attitude and teamwork interaction, attendance, safety, and on road performance.
- Lead Drivers will be on the road on the days they are not scheduled to work as a LD.
- Between opening and closing if no other tasks need to be completed, the Lead Driver may go on the road as a sweeper.
- Compensation will be evaluated based upon the first 30 days of performance and ongoing evaluation. When performing driver (non-LD work), LD will be paid their driver rate.
General Responsibilities:
- Complete all tasks required to support opening and start of day activities.
- Arrive before all drivers, complete opening reports, adjust route assignments based on attendance, prepare route bags.
- Conduct standup and prepare drivers for the day, support team through loadout, pick up routes and manage sweepers accordingly.
- Complete post load out tasks.
- Verify all logins and spreadsheets are updated and accurate.
- Complete all tasks required to support closing and end of day activities.
- Coordinate rescues as needed to ensure maximum route and package delivery completion.
- Confirm end of shift reports are completed (eMentor log outs, DVIC post trips, final report to Amazon and Heather, etc.).
- Ensure RTS is completed accurately.
- Complete Additional Tasks as needed, which may include:
- Additional areas of responsibility may be assigned based on company needs.
- Basic fleet maintenance
- This task will be assigned, and performance assessed as needed
- Shuttling vehicles to and from service shops
- Assist with Hiring and Onboarding
- Lead drivers may need to support the HR department with various onboarding activities, especially when preparing for high volume events (Prime/Peak). These tasks will be assigned and trained as needed.
- Help new hires through flex app set up and online document completion (onboarding tasks).
- Netradyne monitoring
- Monitor any Netradyne alerts, provide driver communication and coaching to reduce frequency of alerts and increase safety.
Qualifications:
- Track record of success and reliability at 725.
Consistent performance on the scorecard (strong performance in all areas, not just Fantastic overall rating).
Good attendance and reliable.
The day a LD is scheduled to open or close is IMPERATIVE that they work. The entire team’s success relies on the Opener and Closing person (which would be the LD some days) to be present and able to successfully complete their roles.
- Able to take direction and receive constructive criticism from superiors and make necessary adjustments to performance to successfully perform LD duties.
- Strong computer skills
Able to efficiently update spreadsheets and reports, use Microsoft Office products (including Outlook for email, Teams, Excel and Word) and various online portals and software
- Ability to multitask and stay focused despite distractions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to effectively communicate in a positive manner with the Operations Team, Human Resources, Drivers, New Hires and Amazon
- Interact in a positive and a professional manner with customers, the general public, and other team members during the course of the day.
- Represent the company in a professional, positive, and polite manner at all times
- Self-motivated and able to work in a self-directed environment with an upbeat attitude.
Requirements:
- All physical requirements of the Delivery Driver role are applicable to this position.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time to complete administrative tasks.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Willing to develop leadership and management skills in order to support business objectives and results.
